Migrant tiger continues to roam near coal mines in Srirampur for third day
Mancherial: A migrant tiger from Maharashtra continued to roam near coal mines in Srirampur for the third consecutive day on Friday, prompting forest officials to intensify monitoring and awareness measures to prevent human-animal conflict.
Forest officials said the tiger was last spotted near a hillock close to the RK5 underground mine on the outskirts of Srirampur till Thursday night. As part of precautionary measures, 40 CCTV camera traps have been installed to track the animal’s movement, while 16 trackers have been deployed to ensure its safe passage through the area.
Officials added that awareness programmes were being conducted among coal miners and local residents, advising them to remain alert and follow safety guidelines.
According to the forest department, two tigers had migrated into the district from Maharashtra via Kumram Bheem Asifabad district a few weeks ago. The animals were sighted at various coal mines and opencast projects in Srirampur, triggering panic among miners. One of the tigers crossed the Godavari river and entered Peddapalli district on December 15, while the other has been staying in the forest areas of Srirampur since then.
Meanwhile, a female tiger, identified as T1, has been frequently moving between the forests of Devapur and Tiryani ranges in the Bellampalli division for a considerable period. Another tigress, L1, has made the district’s forests her home for over a year. Both tigresses had migrated from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra in November last year.
In a separate incident, another migrant tiger has been residing in the forests of Vemanapalli mandal and recently attacked a herd of cows in the forests of Chamanpalli village.
